Scattering Series, Spring 2020
The colors of the sunset and sunrise result from a phenomenon called scattering. Molecules and small particles in the atmosphere change the direction of light rays, causing them to scatter. The spring and summer skyline drove the color inspiration in several of the pieces for this series. I was drawn to the open expanse of sky and layered colors bleeding into one another.
Furthermore, in physics, “scattering” is also a change in the direction of motion of a particle because of a collision with another particle. This series was one of my most active in the application of the paint as I explored more exaggerated movement and striking strokes.
